Sub: Protest against attempts to deny men the choice to contest in elections in the name of “women’s reservation”.
Respected Sir/Madam,
Association for International Men’s Rights Activism and Welfare (AIMRAW) protests against the plans to deny men the choice to contest in elections in the name of “women’s reservation”. AIMRAW is in touch with men’s rights activists from 60 countries all over the world, including India.
The Indian Affiliate Chapter of AIMRAW opposes the plans for reservation of seats for women in Indian parliament and State Assemblies.
Choice to contest and right vote in elections are fundamental in a democracy.
- No one has a right to deny a citizen the choice to contest in an election on the basis of Gender, Religion, Language or Caste. Reservation of Constituencies for women means men will be denied the choice to contest in election.
- Anyone who tries to amend the Constitution in order to deny the citizens the choice to contest in elections will be considered as an enemy of democracy.
- Any amendment to constitution towards denying democratic rights to citizens is same as “mutilation of constitution and subversion of democracy”.
Any discussion in parliament by people’s representatives on snatching away the citizen’s right to contest in elections is totally unacceptable. Such discussion will be considered as a subversion of democracy.
We did not elect the representations (MPs) for curtailing citizens the choice to contest in elections.
Women are not stopped from contesting in elections. Then, why should a man is stopped in contesting in elections just for the fault of being born as “male”?
In fact, the citizens have not discriminated women in elections. They have elected 1 woman out of 12 women candidates, while 1 man out of 15 male candidates won election.
If major political parties like Congress Party or BJP had fielded 100 or more female candidates each in election in 2009, then there would have been more women MPs. If major political parties have failed to give more seats to women in Rajya Sabha, then its only political parties who can correct that with a change in attitude.
Why a Constitution has to be mutilated and democracy be threatened, when the problem lies with attitude of leaders of political parties?
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, out of the 443 candidates declared by the Congress, the party pitched only 40 women candidates (less than 10%). Opposition BJP fielded only 43 women candidates out of the total 427 seats. Left parties, shouting at the top of its lungs about the cause of women reservation, had the worst record of women representation in their list of candidates with only 5% of the tickets being given to women candidates for the 15th Lok Sabha elections. While, the CPM only fielded 4 women candidates out of the 80 declared seats, the CPI gave only 3 women candidates out of the 45 seats it was contesting. While Samajwadi Party fielded a mere 6 candidates out of its 75 candidates in UP, Lalu Yadav-led RJD gave a mere 2 seats to women in its quota of 28 seats in Bihar.(Source: www.indian-elections.com)
If the Congress Party can’t take risks of fielding 100 female candidates in elections in 2009, then why should the citizens take a risk of having a mutilated constitution?
It is like:
“The Patient has got Piles and the Doctor is getting ready to do Open Heart Surgery”
AIMRAW urges all political leaders and Members of Parliament to stop any discussion toward denying any citizen the right to contest in elections on the basis of Gender (male or female), Language, Caste or Religion.
AIMRAW is not against political parties filling Rajya Sabha with 125 women MPs, out of total 250 seats.
We respect the choices of our elected representatives and we expect the elected representatives to respect our democratic choices.
In India, Women have higher life expectancy compared to men and 3 times more men compared to women die every year due to suicides, murders and accidents. So there is no need for further upliftment of women and trampling of men.
So far as higher representation of women in parliament is concerned, the onus is on political parties to give more seats to women in Rajya Sabha and field more women candidates in Lok Sabha elections.
Any attempt to deny men the choice to contest in elections, will be met with serious opposition via media, internet and on ground though mass agitation.
Jai Hind

I strongly support this as a true citizen of India. Any one who wants to serve the public should be given the chance irrespective of gender. If any party wanted to nominate women no body is going to deny not one they can file all women candidates, if they really want to honour women. Jai Hind

I read the letter throughly. And i support this letter as a true citizen of india. For contest in election through gender(male or female) wise is against the democracy.

I completely agree, even as of today women have the right and choice to contest elections, if they don’t then its not the men’s fault. Its the woman’s fault.
This reservation will only exploit the men’s right to contest.
Today we talk of women equality yet we put reservations in bus, trams, and almost everywhere that is just plain simple double standards.
Why should anyone be given reservations. SC/ST is one thing but if women want gender equality then they should have the backbone and balls to brave what we men face.
Why don’t the cops/army put reservation for women also.
How many women died in 26/11, most men cops died.
How many women died protecting the borders of India and the Line of Control, as compared to men.
they should first put reservations there then they can speak about reservations in voting.
Thanks and regards,
Danish.
Do not divide the nation on the basis of gender, it is against constitution.
Treat Men and Women equally.
First you divided the nation on the basis of religion then on caste and now on Gender, Politicians where are you all taking our nation to. Shame on you. History will never forgive you all.
let there be real gender equality.
Reservation in any form will open a pandora’s box of claim for reservation by other interest groups which will undermine democracy.
Smt Indira Gandhi became a prime minister without any reservation. Hence the question is wether we require any reservation at all.
Why do women try hard to compete with men and cast a sorry image and demand reservation.Do they fear that they are incapable to contest with men.WIll suggest first have confidence in yourself and then get on with the job…Its so infortunate that people are trying to reserve posts because they do not have the capability…
[...] Open Letter to MPs in India against Women Reservation Bill [...]
Let the foreign countries these discriminatory laws in their countries first.
Give tickets not reservation
This bill is toatlly unconstitutional and can’t help women. It will create differences between men and women. If Political parties are really want women welfare through politics then they should give tickets to the women candidates.
Pass the bill to throw out corrupt politicians.
When men and women are equal as per our constitution then how these bunch of jokers have the right to change the constituion.
First they change their character, then try to change the country otherwise one day public will also forget the contitution and make rule for themself.
I strongly OPPOSE the WOMENS RESERVATION BILL. We CANNOT build a strong INDIA at the expense of INEQUALITY.
I strongly support your views.
Keep it up
The Women’s Reservation Bill should not be passed in any form.
The parliament as an instrument of the government owes its legitimacy by being elected by the people.
By denying some people right to get elected, just because of their gender, parliament will loose its legitimacy. Also it is against the fundamental principle of Equality enshrined by the constitution.
Also why one should be forced to elect a woman as his or her representative even though that female stands for some particular ideology is behind my comprehension. It tantamount to partial dis-enfrichesment.
It will also open a Pandora’s box of claims and counter-claims for reservation from minorities and other sparsely represented groups and interests in parliament.
Hindsight has shown the devastating result of communal, pharocial and caste based politics. Millions have died in the partition and communal violence perpetuated by our unscrupulous leaders.
This bill is a part of larger plan of Sonia Gandhi (nee Maino) to Divide and polarize society on basis of Gender so that she can make rich electoral gains. She is no different from Raj Thakrey or M.A. Jinnah.
Such bills will deprive us of able parliamentarian. Mr. Kalam was more suitable than our present President. He was a role model for millions.
Able women did not need any reservation to come to power. Neither our founding fathers, who were great freedom fighters and more learned than our present parliamentarians, felt the need for such reservations.
The Women’s resevervation bill will surreptitiously import ultra feminism into our country in name of women’s empowerment. Feminists are anti-God, anti-family, anti-heterosexual and are as dangerous as the Taliban.
The Impact of Feminnism and womens’ liberation movement in the West has been that:-
Women were liberated from :-
• the home,
• from their husbands,
• from their children –
• from having to bear children at all.
Fathers were liberated from their authority.
Children were liberated from limits, from rules, even their parents.
And the entire population was liberated from moral and ethical standards.
Yet it turns out that those things were precisely what held society together.
“Family values” have been so scorned ,that the west is left with neither families nor values.
What do they have? Rampant illegitimacy and sexual disease, widespread divorce, and a generation of unloved, undisciplined, and uncared-for kids.
Do we want this in India?
In light of above it is important that such a great constituional question should be decided by referrandum alone. Let the common woman and not femminist (Bal kati Aurat) decide what is good for the country.
ANY RESERVATION IS AGAINST EQUALITY

It is sad this discrimination towards men. Now we understand some fifty odd woman who are in politics are on a trip across india to garner support for reservation. What a waste of public money. This reservation is a national shame.
